Was there a day where the earth stood still? I'm not asking if the events of the movie "The Day The Earth Stood Still" happened. Well, not entirely. In that movie, an alien spacecraft shows up and something comes out of it and the earth...stood still, pretty much to watch. But I wonder if we can look to historical events and find when the people of the earth stood still. I can think of a few in my lifetime. Maybe when power rangers made its debut on fox after school, or when the new goosebumps book came out...but seriously
What day did the Earth stand still? For you? For your family? For the world?

The world stood still for me and my family when the Twin Towers fell. My uncle worked on the 105th floor of Tower 2 (the second hit...the first to fall). That was definitely a time of waiting and prayer. We didn't know what happened to him. But God totally brought my family together through it. Just goes to show how God can do great things despite the horrible things that happen in this world.
ReplyDeleteThe morning of November 12, 2003, when my high school principle announced over the loud speaker during homeroom that my friend Stephanie had passed away the night before. Everything around me fell away and I felt like I got punched in the stomach. I found out a little while later that she had committed suicide. That day, and those that followed, were a time of intense prayer, questioning, anger and doubt for me. But the community, fellowship and hope that were brought to life out of this tragedy helped me and countless others through this tough time. I will always miss her, but I know that she's in heaven and I look forward to seeing my friend again.
ReplyDeleteLast Arbor Day. I planted a tree. It was pretty. I shed one tear. That tear was used to water the tree. The tree grew, and I was happy. Then a monkey on a riding mower cut it down. On that day, the Earth stood still. Stupid riding mower monkey.
ReplyDeleteThe day stood still for me when my mom had her stroke. My comfortable world with all well was shattered.
